LEETONIA -- Orchard Hill School will soon come tumbling down.
Leetonia Superintendent Thomas Inchak said United Van Lines of Cleveland will begin the week of June 10 to move furniture, equipment, books and other items from Orchard Hill, Washingtonville Elementary and the junior-senior high to the district's new complex adjacent to Orchard Hill.
The school complex will house all the district's nearly 900 pupils and its administrative offices.
Inchak said United Van Lines officials expect the move to take about four days.
Wednesday's Leetonia Board of Education meeting was the last at Orchard Hill. Inchak said demolition is to begin June 17, but the contractor would like to start June 14 if possible.
He said demolition will take about three weeks, then work will begin to transform the area into a parking lot for the new school complex.
Inchak told the board that even as the meeting was in progress, the demolition crew was at work dismantling the boilers.
Teachers have two more days of work in the building and at Washingtonville Elementary and the junior-senior high. Wednesday was the last day for pupils.
Inchak has said the board will offer the junior-senior high and Washingtonville Elementary buildings for sale in the fall. Items not moved to the new complex will be stored in the old high school and sold later, he said.
Supervisor hired
In a related matter, the board hired Herman Frank II of Washingtonville as supervisor of buildings, grounds and transportation.
Frank will receive a two-year contract at $35,000 per year. He will work 260 days per year, beginning Aug. 1.
The board also hired Frank on an as-needed basis until Aug. 1 at a rate of $135.62 per day.
