Boy uses class time for fake purchases

ROGERS -- A 13-year-old Beaver Local Middle School pupil spent about $2 million in astronomy class buying items over the Internet with someone else's account, authorities say.
The Columbiana County Sheriff's office said today that the boy made the purchases Friday morning using a school computer.
The buys included a $1.1 million helicopter and a $199,000 jet, authorities said. He also bought motorcycles and a pickup truck.
The boy bought the items off eBay, an Internet auction site, using a password belonging to a friend's mother.
The woman discovered the purchases later in the day when the helicopter's owner called and asked how she intended to pay for the aircraft.
She is having the purchases canceled, a sheriff's department spokesman said.
The boy's actions are being reviewed by juvenile justice authorities.
School officials also are looking into the matter, Tom Sapp, middle school principal, said this morning.
The boy could be disciplined as a result of the episode, Sapp said.
