DIV. III DISTRICT TRACK MEET Cayson, Chaves lead JFK to crowns



Josh Cayson and Lauren Chaves were standouts for the Eagles' boys and girls track teams.
ANDOVER -- Josh Cayson of Warren John F. Kennedy took first place in the 100-meter dash in 11.2 seconds, anchored two winning relay teams and finished second in the 200 (22.6), at the Division III district track and field meet Saturday at Pymatuning Valley High School.
The Eagles scored 121 points for the boys team championship, while Maplewood placed second with 107 and McDonald third with 99.
The Warren JFK girls also won a district title with 110 points. Maplewood finished second with 92 and Pymatuning Valley was third with 84.
Cayson anchored the Eagles' winning 4x100 relay (45.1), which included Anthony Ambeliotos, Matt Karl and Adam Rossi. Cayson also anchored the winning 4x400 relay (3:29.1), which included Karl, Ben Nolan and Alex Senk.
Other winners
Nolan took the 400 (50.4) and teammate Keith Black took first place in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 412/ inches.
Maplewood's Dan Palm won the 110 hurdles (15.7), and Paul Weaver of Southington was first in the 300 hurdles (41.1).
The Rockets' David Pykare placed first in the 800 (2:00.3), and was second in the 1600 (4:38.61), which was won by teammate Derek Armstrong (4:38.6).
Pykare anchored the winning 4x800 relay (8:14.3), which included Palmer, Paul Moser and Armstrong. Moser (10:08.8) and Luke Bottorff (10:15.8) of Maplewood finished 1-2 in the 3,200.
White cops pair
Alex White of Mineral Ridge was a double winner as he took the shot put (43-73/4) and the discus (135-7).
McDonald's Tim Kunkle took first place in the high jump (5-11).
Lauren Chaves of JFK was first in the 100 (13.0) and the 200 (27.9) and anchored the victorious 4x100 relay (52.5) which included Sarah McNeil, Carla Simeone and Amanda Nolan.
The Eagles also won the 4x200 relay (1:51.2) and the 400 relay (4:16.4), while McDonald placed first in the 4x800 relay (10:09.3).
Grayson takes three
Jen Grayson of Maplewood took first place in the high jump (5-1), 100 hurdles (15.6) and 300 hurdles (47.0), and finished third in the long jump (14-1), which was won by Megan Harford of Newton Falls (14.2).
The Rockets' Christen Clemson took the discus throw (139-5), and Mineral Ridge's Tiffany Hack won the shot put (38-2).
Emily Freudenrich of Lordstown took first place in the 400 (61.7) and the 800 (2:23.5).
Amanda Myers of Badger won the 1600 (5:32.9), and McDonald's Jen Wenhold placed first in the 3200 (11:52).
