Nurse receives award
Elaine Schuster, a licensed practical nurse at the State Regional Correctional Facility, was among 11 state corrections employees designated to receive the outstanding performance award from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
The awards ceremony was last week in Lancaster County as part of Pennsylvania Corrections Employee Week.
County recognized
Lawrence County was recognized for doing its part to recycle. State Rep. Chris Sainato of New Castle, D-9th said the county will receive $6,769 from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's recycling performance grant for recycling done in 2000.
The amount is based on total tons recycled and the county's overall recycling rate, he said. Statewide, the goal is to recycle 35 percent of all municipal waste by 2003, Sainato added. In 2000, Pennsylvanians recycled more than 32 percent of the waste they generated.
