Arson charges against Pa. man are bound over

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Charges against a city man accused of arson were bound over to Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.
Clayton Williams, 22, of South Crawford Avenue appeared Friday for his preliminary hearing before District Justice Melissa Amodie.
Williams was arrested May 2 and charged with arson, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief in the April 28 fire at 108 S. Crawford Ave.
Two men testified that they saw a person wearing red shorts and a blue shirt running from the house just before the fire started.
One of the men, James Feeley of New Castle, said he saw the same person a few minutes earlier carrying a red gas can. The homeowner, Dennis Rossi, said he saw Williams, who lived next door, wearing a blue shirt and red shorts earlier in the day.
New Castle Sgt. Cynthia Eve said police used a search warrant and found a blue shirt, a red shirt and a pair of jean shorts in Williams' home. Eric Weller, a Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal, testified that he found a red gasoline can inside the kitchen. The can apparently was thrown through a window before the blaze started, he said.
