GIRARD -- City police have confiscated 51 political signs because they were placed in illegal locations. The signs were taken down when found on devil strips or if too close to polling places. Of the 51 signs removed, 21 supported Anthony Latell, who is running for the 17th District Congressional seat, and Sandra Stabile Harwood, candidate for state representative in the 65th District.
New library hours
WARREN -- Starting Memorial Day weekend, the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will be closed Sundays and will shut down one hour earlier than usual Monday through Thursday.
Summer hours will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, starting June 10.
Fall-winter hours will resume after Labor Day.
Problems with houses
CHAMPION -- Township trustees got an update Monday on the house at 4509 Cloverlane Ave., declared unfit for habitation last month by the Trumbull County Board of Health because of mold. Atty. Margaret Richards said she represents the family in opposing the matter in court and she expects a decision in June. Trustees noted two abandoned homes were declared unfit by the health board: 330 State Road and 60184 Oakhill Drive.
Joann Carterline, 271 Raymond Ave., told trustees that she is concerned about the township's laying of new pipe at the corner of Leslie Drive and Raymond Avenue. She thinks it will cause more water to accumulate there and the township needs to put in a catch basin. Road Supervisor Robert Sudzina noted that workers will lay 200 feet of pipe but even that won't alleviate water backup. Mercer Mania coming
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer Mania, a community-wide yard sale and merchants' sidewalk sale, will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 18, rain or shine.
Merchants will be open at 9 or 10 a.m. Space is available for $10 for those residing elsewhere. The registration deadline is Thursday. A map of vendor locations will be available beginning Monday at local businesses.

Dems awards dinner

Reassessment talk
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A town meeting to discuss reassessment is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at the New Beaver Borough Building. Lawrence County Commissioner Ed Fosnaught will discuss the effects of reassessment on communities and individuals.
Trucker not hurt
LAKE MILTON -- An out-of-state truck driver who fell asleep on Interstate 76 just past midnight Monday was not injured when his vehicle rolled over, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The commercial truck, traveling east, went off the left side of the road about 12:07 a.m. today then turned over, the patrol said. The Kentucky man was cited for driving with impaired alertness.
