DARLINGTON, Pa. -- An East Palestine man suffered only moderate injuries after his car flipped over and he was pinned for nearly seven hours.
Christopher Barr, 18, of North Walnut Street, was traveling around a bend on North State Line Road, about 0.5 mile from East Palestine Road, at 12:45 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of his 1979 Oldsmobile, said Pennsylvania State Police. The car left the road, flipped onto its roof and crashed into a tree.
Police said Barr was pinned in the car, which was in water and mud, until the crash was discovered at 7:35 a.m. Chippewa and Darlington Fire and Rescue had to pick the car up to free Barr, police said.
Mercer Mania coming
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer Mania, a community-wide yard sale and merchants' sidewalk sale, will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 18, rain or shine.
Merchants will be open at 9 or 10 a.m. Space is available for $10 for those residing elsewhere. The registration deadline is Thursday. A map of vendor locations will be available beginning Monday at local businesses.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The city employee pension board has four new members. The board, which had consisted of only members of city council, added Mayor Timothy Fulkerson, firefighter Mark Panella, police officer David Viggiano and Fred Droder, a representative from the nonuniformed city employees, at Monday's meeting.
Representatives from Morgan Stanley and Dean Witter, the investment companies handling the pension fund, updated the board on its financial health. Board member Patricia May said the fund is now valued at $19,957,791 and $176,815 was paid to retirees in the last quarter.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A town meeting to discuss reassessment is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at the New Beaver Borough Building. Lawrence County Commissioner Ed Fosnaught will discuss the effects of reassessment on communities and individuals.

Trucker not hurt
LAKE MILTON -- An out-of-state truck driver who fell asleep on Interstate 76 just past midnight Monday was not injured when his vehicle rolled over, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The commercial truck, traveling east, went off the left side of the road about 12:07 a.m. today then turned over, the patrol said. The Kentucky man was cited for driving with impaired alertness.
