Eight local groups are seeking state money to pay for conservation projects:
Mahoning River Consortium, a community-based organization, seeks $77,550 toward the purchase price of $156,250 for 24.9 acres to protect the Cranberry Run headwaters in southeast Mahoning County.Mill Creek MetroParks seeks $410,550 toward the purchase price of $566,250 for 66 acres of open space next to the experimental farm in Canfield.Austintown Parks Department seeks $127,500 toward the purchase price of $170,000 for 30 acres to expand the township park.Trumbull County Soil and Water Conservation District seeks $91,875 toward the $132,900 cost of protecting 17 acres for an outdoor environmental education center.Warren city seeks $56,250 toward the purchase price of $75,000 for 1.9 miles for a bikeway.Campbell schools seek $70,330 toward the purchase price of $93,774 for 30 acres to develop a land lab.Trumbull County seeks $115,650 to help pay for a $154,200 project to add an access road and parking lot to a nature center in Cortland.Howland Township seeks $590,274 toward the purchase price of $790,274 for 119.6 acres to expand the township wildlife preserve.
