DAYTON -- Youngstown State earned its first Horizon League four-game sweep, beating Wright State 10-9 Sunday at Nischwitz Stadium.
The Penguins (15-21, 10-6) led 10-7 entering the ninth inning. Wright State (15-29, 7-12) rallied for two runs, but Paul Yates got the final out to record his third save of the season.
YSU's Jim Lipinski and Kendall Schlabach collected three hits apiece. Kyle Smith, Lipinski and Schlabach each scored twice.
Lipinsky had four RBIs and hit a home run. YSU had 13 hits.
Chris Dennis pitched four innings for YSU, allowed five hits and five runs, but just one was earned. Todd Tscherne allowed two runs, one earned in two innings, while James Swearengen pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three. Yates allowed two runs on two hits, struck out two and gave up a walk.
Wright State's Chris Tuttle and Nick Shields had three hits apiece.

Fusion lose
DETROIT, MI. -- Kristina Kovach, a Austintown native, intercepted a pass in the Cleveland Fusion's 20-6 loss to Detroit Danger Sunday at Wisner Stadium.
Lori Johnson of the Fusion (1-1) caught seven passes for 51 yards from quarterback Mary Dietrich, including a 7-yard TD strike from her that cut the deficit to 14-6 in the fourth quarter.
Detroit (2-0, 2-0) led 7-0 at halftime.
Veterans winat Mercer
MERCER, Pa. -- Veterans Jamie Smith, Tommy Kristyak, Steve Young and Doug Iorio had victories at Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday.
Smith backed up Friday night's win at Lernerville by capturing his first Luxaire Heating & amp; Cooling Sprint Car feature win at Mercer since June 17, 2000.
After taking off the last four months of racing in 2001, Kristyak returned to the wheel and collected his first win since April 14, 2001 in the 20-lap Big-Block Modified feature.
Young methodically worked his way through the pack from the 23rd starting position to win the 20-lap New Castle School of Trades Sportsman Modified feature.
The door swung open and Iorio was handed the 15-lap Butterfield's Pub Stock Car feature win in a wild event.
Sharon Speedwaybegins new era
HARTFORD -- The New Sharon Speedway era began Saturday in front of a large crowd.
Four feature winners emerged, with Ed Lynch, Jr. of Apollo, Pa. winning the 25-lap Sunburst Environmental Sprint Feature.
Ron Smoker from Hamburg, N.Y. captured the 25-lap Gibson-Governor Insurance V-8 Modified A-Main, defending track champion, Dwayne Clay of Warren won the Burghill Auto Salvage Pure Stock event, and Rich "Fuzzy" Stiffler of Niles claimed the time-limit short-ended Coy Brothers E-Mod Feature.

* HAMBURG, Germany -- Kim Clijsters rallied to beat top-ranked and defending champion Venus Williams 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the Betty Barclay Open.
The 18-year-old Clijsters, ranked No. 3, won her seventh title.
Williams beat Martina Hingis to reach the title match and retain the No. 1 ranking for at least another week.
* PALMA DE MALLORCA, Spain -- Gaston Gaudio beat Jarkko Nieminen 6-2, 6-3 to win the $381,000 Mallorca Open.
Gaudio beat top-seeded Gustavo Kuerten in the quarterfinals and fifth-seeded Argentina countryman Agustin Calleri.
* BOL, Croatia -- Asa Svensson beat Croatia's Iva Majoli 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in her first appearance in the final at the Croatian Bol Ladies Open.
It was Svensson's first title since winning in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1999.
