Women to exhibit art works at The Butler



Proceeds from a patrons party and a preview party will benefit women and children of the community.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The YWCA will present the 21st Women Artists: A Celebration exhibit May 12 through June 1 at The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave.
The purpose of the event is to give local, regional and national women artist an opportunity to display their works, and to gain recognition and support from the community.
Featured will be paintings, drawings, graphics, photography, sculptures, ceramics, fiber, metal work and computer-generated art work.
Barbara Jones, curator of Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, Pa., will judge the show, and more than $1,000 in merit prizes will be awarded.
Kicking off the exhibition will be a patrons party at 6 p.m. Saturday at The Butler. A New Orleans jazz festival will be the theme. Afterward a preview party will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Featured at both events will be hors d'oeuvres, music and a cash bar.
Proceeds will benefit the YWCA Barbara M. Wick Transitional House for homeless women and children and a free program for children at The Butler.
Viewing hours
Hours for public viewing of the exhibit are: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
