WESTLAKE, Ohio -- A local woman will be installed as president of the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Ohio when it has its 125th Annual Meeting from May 13 to 15 at the Holiday Inn, Westlake. The slate includes:
UPresident: Janet Smart of St. Andrew's Church, Canfield.
UVice President: Marilyn Hansen of Christ Church, Hudson.
USecretary: Mary Jane White of St. Thomas Church, Berea.
UWorship Chair: Mary Stewart of St. Phillip Church, Akron.
UUnited Thank Offering Coordinator: Mary Gatz of Trinity. Church, Toledo.
The Cleveland West Deanery ECW, under the direction of Ascension Episcopal Church, will be host of the meeting. Pamela Stewart, president of the National Episcopal Church Women, will be the keynote speaker.
Workshops include: An Episcopal/Lutheran dialogue with women from the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, making teaching aids for Lillian Valley School for Native Americans in Blackfoot, Idaho, and an overview and demonstration of the Loving Paws Therapy Dogs program.
There will be a service May 15 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Bay Village, where the installation will take place.
Patronal feast day
YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Brendan Parish will celebrate the feast day of its patron at 7 p.m. May 16 with the unveiling, blessing and dedication of a new bas-relief of St. Brendan. The 8-foot figure was designed and carved by Norbert Koehn of Cleveland. A Celtic social will follow with Scottish music and Irish dancers. Call (330) 744-6993.
30th anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- People's Chapel Church of God will celebrate its 30th anniversary at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Dr. Nobles C. Darby, pastor of the Crystal Worship Center in Cleveland, will speak at the morning service. The Rev. Catherine Rexford of Himrod Church of God and her choir are the guests for the afternoon service. The church began May 1, 1972, with the Rev. Irma Corbett, People's pastor emeritus, leading a Bible study in a home. Later that year, the church moved to a storefront, where it remained for 17 years before erecting the present church building.
Dialogue group meets
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown-Warren Chapter of the Society of St. John Chrysostom (Catholic/Orthodox dialogue) will meet at 7 p.m. May 13 at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown. Call (330) 755-5635.
Peace pilgrimage
NORTH JACKSON -- The National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon will have a Peace Pilgrimage on May 16. The speaker will be Brother Austin David Carroll, the assistant to the secretary-general of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association in New York.
The day will begin at 6:50 a.m. with the Rosary and Mass at 7:20 a.m. There will be conferences at 10 a.m. and 1 and 7 p.m. A buffet lunch at noon costs $4.50 and a buffet dinner at 6 p.m. is $8. There will be collections at the 5 p.m. Mass and 7:30 p.m. conference. Call (330) 538-3351.
Musician to perform
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Southern gospel musician Roy Tremble will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Temple Worship Center.
He formerly performed with the Cathedral Quartet, which won four Dove Awards and was nominated for three Grammy awards.
Youth event set
NORTH LIMA -- Good Hope Lutheran Church will have a Lock-In for high school students that features the contemporary Christian band Captive Free. The overnight event starts at 7 p.m. Friday.
Captive Free band members commit to a yearlong, full-time tour performing at hundreds of churches and events. Captive Free helps congregations to strengthen Christ-centered relationships among youth and adults, and in return, the fellowship with church members promotes each team members' faith. An offering will be taken.
