2 indicted in shootings

One person would face a life term if convicted.

LISBON -- A Columbiana County grand jury has indicted two county residents in unrelated shootings.
Gregory Doak, 44, of Knox Township, was secretly indicted on charges of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and violation of a protection order.
Doak is being held without bail in the county jail.
Doak is charged with the April 7 shooting death of Teresa Stoffer, 42, of Knox Township.
Authorities say Doak went armed with a rifle to the U.S. Route 62 trailer park where Stoffer lived, seeking to kill Stoffer and his estranged wife, Angela Doak, 39.
Angela and Stoffer were friends and neighbors.
Doak encountered Stoffer outside her trailer and shot her because he believed she had interfered with his marriage, authorities said. He then shot his way into his wife's trailer as she fled out another door, authorities said.
Doak is to be arraigned at 11:30 a.m. Monday in county common pleas court.
Aggravated murder bears a maximum life sentence with parole eligibility after 20 years, Prosecutor Robert Herron said.
Attempted aggravated murder bears a maximum 10-year sentence, as does the aggravated burglary charge.
Attached to each felony is an accusation that a firearm was used in the crime, which could mean additional seven years of prison time. The protection order violation carries a six-month maximum sentence.
Another case
Also indicted was Michaelene Duffy, 43, of St. Jacob-Logtown Road, Center Township.
She is charged with attempted murder in the April 10 shooting of Tom Rice of state Route 7, Madison Township.
She also is charged with two counts of passing bad checks.
Authorities say Duffy entered Rice's home and shot him several times with a handgun.
Duffy rented a home from Rice last year and a dispute over that rental may have led to the shooting, investigators said.
Duffy, who is being held in the county jail with bond set at $500,000, faces up to 10 years in prison on the attempted-murder charge and up to 18 months on the check charges if she is convicted.
She also is accused of using a firearm in the crime, which could bring another three years in prison on conviction.
An arraignment date for Duffy has yet to be set.
Rice, 55, remains in a Pittsburgh hospital.
