WARREN Brookfield man is sentenced for sex offense

The defendant is the father of the man who was convicted of throwing semen.
WARREN -- A 62-year-old Brookfield man has been sentenced to six years in prison for having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
A jury convicted Robert Gibson of Albright McKay Road of five counts of sexual battery and one count of corruption of a minor in Feburary.
He is the father of Robert Leroy Gibson III, 38, also of Albright McKay Road, who is serving 60 days in the Trumbull County jail for throwing semen on female shoppers in Niles and Howland.
Judge John Stuard of common pleas court sentenced the elder Gibson to two years on the corruption of a minor charge, and to four years for each of the sexual battery charges.
The sexual battery sentences will be served at the same time.
Declared an offender
Gibson was also declared a sexually oriented offender, requiring him to check in with authorities every 10 years after his release from prison.
"I think it is fair," said Atty. Sarah Kovoor, who prosecuted the case. "He is already in his 60s and he is not well."
The jury could not come to an agreement on seven other charges against Gibson, including two counts of rape.
"Given the jury's substantial doubt over the defendant's guilt, I think he was slammed pretty badly on this sentence," said Atty. Daniel Keating, who represented Gibson.
He said he'll appeal based on an argument that Gibson was not tried within the 270 days required by law.
Judge Stuard rejected a motion by Keating that would have kept his client out of prison until the appeal is decided.
