ABWA chapter marks 47th, honors woman of the year



CANFIELD -- Cathy Lou Pokrivnak was honored as "Woman of the Year" by Youngstown Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association during a meeting May 21 at Tippecanoe Country Club.
The occasion marked the organization's 47th anniversary and associate night.
Pokrivnak has been employed by Youngstown State University since 1984. She works in the records office, where she is in charge of transcripts, graduation and supervision of student employees.
A member of ABWA since 1989, she is chairperson of the education-scholarship committee. She has served on various committees, including newsletter, public relations, program and scrapbook. Pokrivnak was on the program book committee for the Regional Conference held in 1998 in Youngstown and also was a delegate to the National Conference in 1998 in Arizona.
Pokrivnak also is Sunday school superintendent at Boardman United Methodist Church. She has coordinated date rape seminars at YSU and in community outreach.
She and her husband, John, live in Boardman. They have three children and four grandchildren.
