CANFIELD -- The Poland High softball team scored four runs in the second inning and four more in the third to upend Canfield 9-1 Wednesday and clinch a tie for the Metro Athletic Conference title.
Katie Naumoff hit two doubles to spark the Bulldogs (14-4, 7-1 MAC). Aslyn Rodriquez hit three singles.
Poland is ranked second in a state poll of Division II teams.
Megan Turocy paced the Cardinals (9-10, 5-4) with a double. Ginny Naples chipped in with two singles.
Fitch 8, Ursuline 0: AUSTINTOWN -- Senior Brianna Ozias fired a no-hitter for the Falcons (8-14, 3-3 Steel Valley Conference).
Ozias led the Fitch offense with two doubles. Nastasja Faison's two hits included a double. Julie Reigrut and Jen Purnell each had two singles.
Massillon 1, Mooney 0: MASSILLON -- With two outs in the sixth inning, Shelleh Bahlquist tripled and scored on an infield hit for Massillon.
Abbey Hattery (13-5) held the Cardinals (14-4) to four hits. In the Mooney fifth inning, Adrianne Detesco singled and stole second.
Melissa LaRosa (6-2) threw a five-hitter at the Tigers (13-5).
Chaney 16, Wilson 1: YOUNGSTOWN -- Chaney had 19 hits for the game and a 9-0 lead after three innings.
Amanda Yazbek, Angela Armstrong and Tara Mshar all went 3-5 for Chaney. Yazbek tripled and doubled, while Armstrong had a three-bagger.
Mshar, Danielle Warren and Justine Klopta combined on a two-hitter.
Angie Cardarelli had two singles for Wilson.
Hubbard 6, Brookfield 0: HUBBARD -- Lisa Yaunt (8-2) pitched a complete game as she scattered three hits and struck out five to pick up the win for the Eagles (9-4, 8-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Colleen Sullivan hit two singles and drove in two runs and scored once for Hubbard.
Champion 9, Girard 0: GIRARD -- A seven-run fifth inning broke open the game for Champion (9-8, 5-5 TAC). Jessica Rowland hit a double and two singles for the Golden Flashes.
Beth Carney hit a double and single for the Indians (2-16, 2-11).
Lakeview 1, Newton Falls 0: CORTLAND -- Unbeaten Lakeview (12-0, 11-0 TAC) scored the winning run in the eighth inning.
Stefanie Duda, who hit two singles, drove in winning pitcher Heather Fink (12-0) with the deciding run.
Fink scattered five hits and struck out eight in pitching the complete game for the win.
Springfield 5, Western Reserve 1: BERLIN CENTER -- Maggie Marsh (12-6) pitched a compete game, scattering three hits and striking out three for the Tigers (14-9, 9-3 Inter-County League).
Jessica Snyder and Lindsay Johnson each hit a triple and single and drove in a run for the Tigers.
South Range 5, Mineral Ridge 0: NORTH LIMA -- South Range (14-5, 8-3) got all the runs it needed in the second inning when it scored two times.
Jessie Clayton hit a triple and single, while Amy Algeo singled twice for the Raiders. Jenn Toth (8-4) scattered six hits and struck out seven to pick up the win.
Canton McKinley 4, West Branch 1: CANTON -- The Bulldogs (14-4) scored all their runs in the top of the first inning. Lindsey Vander led McKinley with a double. Ellie Geiger and Vana Morgan each hit a double for West Branch (11-8).
