3 injured in crash
WASHINGTONVILLE -- Thomas Whitfield, 67, of New Springfield was in stable condition this morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, after a two-vehicle crash on state Route 14 just east of here.
Julie Greissinger, 34, of Alliance was in satisfactory condition this morning at Alliance Community Hospital. A passenger in Whitfield's van, Marilyn Whitfield, 63, of New Springfield, was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Greissinger was eastbound Wednesday around 7:10 a.m. when her car went left of center, striking Whitfield's van head-on.
The patrol said the impact forced Whitfield's van off the road, where it struck a culvert and flipped over, coming to rest on its wheels back on the road.
Greissinger's car spun after impact and stopped in the road facing west, the patrol said.
Greissinger was cited for driving left of center, the patrol said.
Chiropractor returns
COLUMBIANA -- Dr. David Vitko, a local chiropractor, has returned to the city after walking and bicycling some 340 miles to Washington, D.C. Vitko took eight days to make the trip. Two weeks before the trip, Vitko fasted, drinking only water. During the trip, he ate 600 calories a day, a diet of nuts and vegetables. Vitko said he wanted to illustrate that Americans' consumption of too much food is at the root of most health problems. While in Washington, he spoke to congressmen about the high cost of prescription medications and the need for health-care reform.
Sentencing in assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sentencing will be at 9 a.m. June 20 in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for Alan J. Christian of Sebring, who was found guilty last week of felonious assault.
Prosecutors said Christian, 35, of East Maryland Avenue, pulled a gun on a Sebring policeman who tried to arrest him after a domestic dispute. He faces up to 13 years in prison when sentenced by Judge Robert Lisotto.
Racketeering charge
CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury has indicted a Youngstown man on a charge of traveling in interstate commerce in aid of racketeering.
Joseph F. Drahos, 56, last known to live on Miami Avenue, is accused of traveling from Cleveland to Phoenix on Feb. 10 to engage in illegal activity involving narcotics and controlled substances, the government said.
Development opposition
NESHANNOCK -- A proposed development here has nearby neighbors questioning township supervisors.
Residents at Wednesday's meeting of supervisors opposed the 7.3-acre development off North Mercer Street proposed by township resident Joseph Marinelli.
Supervisor Gale Measel said plans have been in front of the supervisors for more than a year.
Measel said there are several requirements a developer must meet before the township will approve a development. He said Marinelli still has a long list of issues to be resolved.
Robbery reported
SHARON, Pa. -- A 50-year-old Fisher Hill Street woman told police she was attacked and robbed by a man she found standing in her bedroom when she came home around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The woman said the intruder was going through her jewelry when she walked in and she screamed. The man pushed her into the living room, took $100 from her coat pocket and struck her on the head several times with a stick before fleeing, she said. The man was described as white, in his 20s, with a thin build and shoulder-length greasy, blond hair. He also had very bad teeth and wore a red shirt and blue and white jogging pants.
