Patoray electedpresident of umpires
YOUNGSTOWN -- Greg Patoray has been elected president and Al Dobson vice president of the Youngstown Metro Umpires Association.
John Mang was elected secretary/treasurer while Ken Mills, Harry Groner, Tom Rosko and Paul Bevilaqua were voted to the board.
Pete Vukovich was honored for 40 years of service, Joe Pompeo, Sr. for 35 years and Dobson for 30.
Bowling winners
HUBBARD -- Jane Popa, Rose Tufaro, Phyllis Simodi and Barbara Burger were division winners at the conclusion of the 10th annual Ladies Senior Tournament at Bell-Wick Bowl.
Popa rolled 652 to win Division A, Tufaro had 623 in Division B, Simodi registered 664 in Division C and Burger had 630 in Division D.
The women received cash, plaques and an invitation to the Youngstown Women's Bowling Association banquet in October.
Titans win
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Westminster College baseball team improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 5-1 victory over Washington & amp; Jefferson.
Kevin Culp of Canfield earned the mound win, hurling the distance and improving to 1-2 on the year. He allowed one unearned run and gave up five hits while walking one and striking out five.
Kevin Humberston led the Titans offensively with three hits in three trips and scored three runs.
Thiel loses
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Thiel College baseball team dropped a 6-3 contest to Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Bethany College Friday.
The Tomcats fell to 5-11 on the season, while the Bisons improved to 4-8.
Sophomore right fielder Joe Verona of Campbell led the Tomcats with two hits, including a home run.
Geneva hiresGalbreath
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Ron Galbreath of New Wilmington, former longtime and successful men's basketball coach at Westminster College, has been named women's basketball coach at Geneva College.
Galbreath, who relinquished his Westminster coaching job in 1998 after 25 years with a 448-206 record, replaced Jackie Myers, who resigned after this season to become athletic director at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C.
Galbreath, who has an overall collegiate record of 523-247, has been serving Westminster as men's cross country coach and a professor of physical education since 1998.
SRU delayscomplex opening
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The long-awaited debut of Jack Critchfield Park, Slippery Rock University's new baseball complex, has been delayed.
The Rock was scheduled to open the new facility Monday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against non-conference rival Gannon University of Erie.
Inclement weather caused delays in the completion of the project and forced school officials to move the site of those games to Wally A. Rose Baseball Park.
The Rock's April 6 doubleheader against California of Pa., also may be played at Rose Park.
If Jack Critchfield Park is not ready April 6, the Rock will open the new facility April 13 against Lock Haven University in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
Krivonak driveshome a run
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Senior John Krivonak, a Canfield native, singled home Mike DePalma in the fifth inning as Johns Hopkins University blanked Western Maryland 5-0 in a Centennial Conference opener.
Yani Rosenberg allowed only two hits and struck out 10 for John Hopkins (13-4, 7-2).

NORTH RANDALL -- Thistledown opens its horse racing season today with a new post time, 1:30 p.m.
This weekend, fans can enjoy eight live races. Thistledown's daily program also will include nine races from Beluah Park.

Collins told to stay mum
WASHINGTON -- Don't look for anymore surprise Michael Jordan news from Washington Wizards coach Doug Collins.
Two days after he caused a stir by saying he'd be surprised if Jordan plays next season, Collins said he's now been given a gag order on the subject.
Jordan was surprised by the uproar created by Collins' comments. He said Thursday that he does plan to play next season unless his ailing knee doesn't improve.
Chiefs sign WR Morton
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Johnnie Morton, the free-agent receiver who spent eight seasons with Detroit, signed a seven-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
