OXFORD -- In a game that took three hours and 15 minutes to play, Youngstown State lost to Miami (Ohio) 8-7 Thursday. The game was shortened by darkness.
With one out in the eighth inning, Mike Galloway of the Redhawks scored the deciding run on a ground ball as the Penguins were unable to turn a double play.
Ty Furico of YSU (6-8) led off the game with a home run, but Miami bounced back in the bottom half of the first inning to score two runs.
YSU's Kendall Schlabach led off the eighth inning with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored the go-ahead run on a single.
Facing a 7-6 deficit in the bottom half of the eight, the Redhawks put together a two-run rally to clinch the victory.
Games canceled
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Indiana University-Purdue University baseball doubleheader against Youngstown State today has been canceled.
The Youngstown State softball game against Canisius today has been postponed until April 6 at noon.
The Penguins will play host to Kent State in a doubleheader Tuesday at 2 p.m. at McCune Park.
Dr. Cynthia Anderson, YSU Vice President of Student affairs, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the first game.

Andres resigns
GREENVILLE -- Reynolds High boys basketball coach Don Andres resigned from his position Wednesday after leading the Raiders to their first playoff appearance in 18 years.
Reynolds finished with a 12-13 record, 7-3 in the Mercer County Athletic Conference. The Raiders lost to Wilmington, 40-39, in the conference championship and fell to No. 3-ranked Eisenhower 55-54 in the playoffs.
"It was just too long of a drive for me," said Andres, who has coached at Niles, Warren JFK and Howland, where he is the vocational coordinator. "I'm keeping my options open and hopefully I'll get a job in the area."
Bowling teamsare champs
GIRARD -- Four juniors teams from Arrowhead Lanes won divisions during the Region 11 state qualifier at Kay Lanes recently.
The Raiders of Nick Latessa, James Latessa, Joe Wilkes and Gerrad Rohan rolled 2,506 to win the "D" male division. Alley Kittens of Carrisa Benchwick, Laura Broschak, Andrea Detwiler and Kearstin Nelson tallied 2,379 to win the "D" female competition.
The Ten Pins team of Nathan Kuhus, Chelsay Kampfer, Brissann Greenfield and J.C. Greenfield won "D" mixed with 2,447 while Randy Phillips, Matt Krebs, Mike Szalay and Eric Phillips comprised the Bulldogs who won "C" male with 2,482.
Also in "D" male, the Mixers placed third while Hardy Boys and Goast Busters tied for fifth with 2,347.

Ohio St., Miamisign for 2 games
COLUMBUS -- Ohio State and Miami have scheduled a home-and-home football series in 2010 and 2011.
The first game will be played Sept. 4, 2010 in Columbus. The Buckeyes and Hurricanes also will play in Miami on Sept. 17, 2011.
Tri-City Speedwayopens April 14
FRANKLIN, Pa. -- Tri-City Speedway will kick off the 2002 season on April 14.
The season opener will feature the first four-star racing program of the year with the NorthPointe Automotive Super Sprints, Schwab's Ford DIRT Modifieds, RE/MAX E Mods and E.F. Rogers Plumbing & amp; Heating Stock Cars.
Among the favorites are 2001 Super Sprint champion Scott Bonnell of Fairview, Pa.; Sharon Speedway champion Jarod Larson; Jason Jacoby; Brent Covell; Mark Cassella, and Kevin Schaeffer, who will replace Late Model hotshot David Scott in the Super Sprint.
Two-time defending CSOnline Applefest 100 winner and 1999 track champion Bobby Whitling of Seneca, Pa., is also ready for the Stock Car season. Whitling will battle defending Stock Car champion Ron Iorio of Kennerdell, Pa., for the title, along with Dave Ferringer, Doug Iorio Sr., Scotty Carbaugh, Bob Sloss, Danny Exley, Matt Cummings and Bruce Smith.

Mooney's Marsdento attend Walsh
NORTH CANTON -- Bill Marsden, a senior offensive lineman for the Cardinal Mooney High football team last season, is planning to attend Walsh University next school year and resume his football career.
Marsden (6-foot-2, 165 pounds), coached by P.J. Fecko at Mooney, was one of 25 recruits to sign NAIA National Letters of Intent to attend Walsh, which will play its eighth season of intercollegiate football in 2002.
Walsh achieved its seventh straight winning season last year with an 8-3 record, and won its first Mid-States Football Association Mideast League championship.
