Agency receives grant for Internet classes

SALEM -- Senior citizens will be able to take classes on using the Internet thanks to aid from Ameritech.
The telephone company is giving Columbiana County Office on Aging a $12,000 grant.
The money will be used to equip a computer lab and to hire instructors to teach seniors how to use the Internet, Iris Marshalek, Office on Aging director, explained Thursday.
The lab will be based at Office on Aging offices in the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St.
Classes will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for a total of six sessions. Computers also will be available for practice sessions.
Classes are only for Columbiana County residents age 60 and over.
The instruction is free, although Office on Aging will accept a donation of up to $10 from those who wish to give.
For more information, call Office on Aging at (330) 332-1163.
The Ameritech grant will allow Office on Aging to create and run the lab for a year. After that, the agency will depend on fund-raisers and donations to keep the facility operating, Marshalek explained.
