Youngstown man, 19, held in slaying of YSU student

Phone records and several witnesses implicate the suspect, an assistant city prosecutor said.

YOUNGSTOWN -- A 19-year-old North Side man is being held in lieu of $1 million bail after his arraignment in municipal court on a charge that he murdered a Youngstown State University student last month.
Freddie Lewis of Victoria Street admitted he killed Justin Treasic during a robbery gone awry, city police have said. He faces a charge of aggravated murder.
Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly set the bond during the court hearing Monday and appointed an attorney to represent Lewis.
Treasic, 21, of Logan Avenue, was found Feb. 21 in an open field at Ada Street and Poplar Avenue with gunshot wounds to the head and left arm. He died a day later in St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Assistant City Prosecutor Michael Krause said cell phone records and several witnesses place Lewis at the scene of Treasic's death or with the victim. He said he is aware of no prior criminal record on Lewis.
City Police Detective Sgt. John Kelty said Lewis was a marijuana customer of Treasic's and had picked him up to buy marijuana, intending to rob him.
Lewis killed Treasic when the robbery went awry, Kelty said.
Kelty said there is blood inside the Chrysler Grand Marquis police confiscated when Lewis was arrested.
Police also are seeking a second possible suspect.
