Trustees are doing the best for Austintown

Trustees are doing the best for Austintown
EDITOR:
This is in response to the recent letter to the editor, "Austintown trustees need a better track record to get support of the home rule."
The writer stated that he moved from the city of Youngstown to Austintown in 1997 for fresh air and better opportunities for his children. Yes, Austintown has become one of the fastest growing communities. It is because of the trustees that our township is growing.
He wrote that the trustees have not done an admirable job of administering our township. Maybe it's because of people like him that do not support what they do. For many years, the trustees have tried unsuccessfully to get home rule but were constantly overruled by the residents of our community. Why? Because no one knows what home rule is all about.
It will help our growing community by allowing the trustees to set up new ordinances. If these ordinances were in place two years ago, we wouldn't have all the ugly billboards we have now, up and down Mahoning Avenue.
The letter writer mentioned our corrupt government. I wonder: Is he a voter? Who did he vote for? Did he vote for our trustees/government? Does he attend our trustees meeting?"
I do think that our trustees can do more for our community. Like hiring more police and putting more patrols on the streets. With our community growing, crime will also grow and we need more protection. Our schools are outdated, and we need new schools. Every growing community around us is building new schools for the betterment of our children. Remember, some day they can and will be our leaders.
As for all the new homes being built in our community. Look around. Would he rather live back in Youngstown, next to a crack house, a burned out house, a house with no siding or windows? The new Austintown homes are beautiful and will only bring more money into the township through property taxes and the money these individuals spend in our stores.
I have lived in this community of Austintown since the day I was born, 40 years ago and will continue to live here and support my township and its elected officials. If I don't like an elected official, I won't vote for that individual again.
The writer does have a few choices. 1. If he thinks he can do a better job as a trustee, let's see his name on the next ballot. 2. Move out of our community and back to Youngstown. 3. Let our trustees to the job they were elected to do.

Community suffers with Traficant in Congress
EDITOR:
All the fuss that is being made over Jim Traficant by the local media is playing into his own hands, Apparently he craves attention, and will go to any ridiculous lengths to get it.
That included insisting on serving as his own lawyer in his present trial, abandoning his own party by voting for Dennis Hastert as speaker of the House and opposing our governmental agencies at a time when he should be doing more important things for those people he was elected to represent, such as jobs.
By his bathroom language and rude actions, he creates an impression that is unfavorable and embarrassing to the voters he represents.
There is no doubt that the man is obsolete and belongs back in the hippie era as shown by his unkempt hair and bell-bottom pants. His trademark sign-off "Beam me up" and "I've got a train to run" are inane.
We deserve a lot better than an attention-seeking, egotistical, and crude person representing us in the U.S. Congress. Let us show at the voting booth that we can elect a well-qualified person who can serve with integrity and dignity.
