YOUNGSTOWN Man, 19, arrested in slaying of student

Police said the murder was the result of a robbery gone awry.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Police have arrested a 19-year-old North Side man they say confessed murdering a Youngstown State University student last month.
The teen, of Tacoma Avenue, was arrested Friday and faces arraignment Monday on one count of aggravated murder in the shooting death of Justin Treasic, said Youngstown Police Detective Sgt. John Kelty.
Treasic, 21, of Logan Avenue, was found Feb. 21 in an open field at Ada Street and Poplar Avenue with gunshot wounds to the head and left arm. He died a day later in St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Detective's account: Kelty said the suspect was buying marijuana from Treasic and intended to rob him. When the robbery went awry, Treasic was killed. Kelty said the suspect was a past customer of Treasic's.
He said the suspect had picked up Treasic from a friend's house on Pennsylvania Avenue and driven with him as he tried to find a place to rob him. The robbery took place near the home of one of the suspect's relatives.
Besides arresting the man, police confiscated the car they suspect he was driving during the robbery, a Chrysler Grand Marquis.
Kelty said police are investigating a second possible suspect.
Treasic was found around 3:40 p.m. lying face down two feet from the road with a pool of blood around his head. His pockets had been turned inside out as if he had been robbed, and no identification was on him, according to police reports. When found, he was breathing heavily and shaking but unable to speak. Police found no shell casings near him.
A small scale, commonly used to weigh drugs, was found in his pocket, reports show.
