POISON PREVENTION Tips
Ask for child resistant containers.
Do not store food products and household cleaners in the same cabinet.
Always keep products in their original containers.
Keep harmful medicines and household products out of the reach and in locked cabinets. Common types of poisoning include medicines, such as aspirin, sleeping pills and iron pills; and household products, such as mothballs, furniture polish, drain cleaners, weed killers, insect or rat poisons and cleaning detergents.
Never call medicine candy.
Do not take medicine in front of children; they love to imitate adults.
Many poisonings occur when a product is in use. If the doorbell or phone ring, or there are other distractions, keep the product with you.
Keep potentially harmful products, such as cosmetics, perfume, cigarettes, alcohol, vitamins with iron, and over-the-counter drugs clearly out of reach.
Seek help if your child swallows a substance that is not food. Call the poison center or your doctor.
Keep the following telephone numbers by your phone: Doctor, poison center, hospital.
The national emergency number that connects callers with the closest available poison control center is (800) 222-1222.
