U Honored the following district educators who are nationally certified: Mary Jo Barton, McGuffey Elementary; Cynthia Dressel, Jefferson Elementary; Marilyn Frankford, McGuffey; Carol Jesse, Laird Elementary; Ethel Kripchak, Alden Elementary; Leslie McBane, Alden; Kathleen Rider, Turner Middle; Elaine Roshetsky, Western Reserve Middle; Erikka Sampson, Alden; Leana Spencer, Jefferson; Brenda Stauffer, Jefferson; Monica Vansuch, Horace Mann Elementary; Katherine Varga, McGuffey; and Carol Young, who works at Garfield and Lincoln elementaries.
U Granted a diploma for World War II veteran Rudolph E. Laurich. A new state law allows school districts to award diplomas to veterans who left school early to serve in the military during the war.
U Agreed to seek bids to replace some classroom furniture. The expected cost will exceed $25,000.
SOUTHINGTON
U Approved the following supplemental contracts: John Phillips, girls basketball coach; William Drury, golf coach; Beth Young, volleyball coach; Dale Habosky, cross country and track coach, Gary Ifft, track coach.
U Announced that students who haven't passed the ninth-grade proficiency test may be able to participate in graduation ceremonies this spring if they sign a promise to continue to take the test until they pass.
