Columbiana school board fills vacancy

COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana Board of Education appointed Robert Rubicky to fill the board seat vacated by David Dale.
Dale, a minister, resigned the position because he accepted a church assignment out of the area.
Superintendent Patricia Hura said today that the board chose Rubicky, of 144 N. Vine St., from five district residents who applied. He was named to the post during the board's Monday meeting.
Rubicky is a director of human resources for J.L. Nick and Associates, Youngstown. The company is a drugstore chain retailer.
Hura said the board authorized the treasurer to accept bids for purchase of two new school buses, with a 1983 model used as a trade-in. She said five of the district's nine buses are more than five years old.
Estimated cost of the new buses is $50,000 to $60,000 each.
The board also authorized the treasurer to contract with Bell Well Drilling, Inc., of Fairfield Township to drill a well for irrigation of the athletic fields. The cost is not to exceed $12,030.
