Police: Man was shot after making threats

YOUNGSTOWN -- A 43-year-old Liberty man was shot to death in what appears to be a domestic-related dispute Saturday evening on the city's South Side, police said.
The victim, John Bell, for whom no exact address was provided, was shot once in the chest and once in a leg behind 527 Cameron St. around 8:15 p.m., said Robert Kane, police chief of detectives. The victim, an ex-boyfriend of the woman who lives at that address, telephoned her and said he was coming to do her harm, according to Kane.
Her 36-year-old brother, who was with her because of the threats against her, was on the back porch smoking a cigarette when he saw Bell coming through the back yard and shot him, most likely with a handgun, Kane said. Police were questioning her brother, who resides on Glenwood Avenue, about the shooting Saturday evening, he added.
The deceased had threatened her and "slapped her around" Friday in Austintown, Kane said. "It escalated until tonight, when he threatened to come over and take her out again and the brother shot him," Kane said. "As far as we know right now, the victim didn't fire at all."
