Canfield Fairgroundsto host horse show
CANFIELD -- The Northern Ohio QHA, an American Quarter Horse Association approved show, will be April 27-28 at Canfield Fairgrounds.
American Quarter Horse shows test horses' abilities in dozens of different classes and features jumping, reining, barrel racing, cutting, roping and pole bending events. Additionally, halter classes that judge American Quarter Horses based on balance, muscling and breed characteristics are held.
By competing at an AQHA Show, exhibitors and horses also can qualify for the AQHA or American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Shows, the premier events in the entire equine industry.

St. Charles Lionsare champions
BOARDMAN -- The St. Charles Lions eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Queen of Peace 44-41 to win the Mahoning/Trumbull Catholic Conference championship.
Team members are Chris Leson, Will Kandray, Pat Kelley, Doug Philibin, Nick Shirilla, Zach Smith, George Clark, Ryan Smith, Mark Cartwright, Ryan Joyce, Joe Simon, Tom Eich, Tyler Landis, Jim Dreillin and Jonathon Hamarik.
Coaches are Kevin Freaney, Dan Welsh, Billy Marsh, Carl Di Gaetano and scorekeeper Bud Joyce.
Oquendo-Tua fightset at Mountaineer
CHESTER, W.Va. -- NABF heavyweight champion Fres Oquendo will face two-time IBF No. 1 contender David Tua on April 13 at The Harv, at Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort.
Showtime will televise the bout.
Raiders' Richardsearns honor
ALLIANCE -- Mount Union senior forward Todd Richards earned third-team honors in the Great Lakes Region.
Richards, a Uniontown Lake High graduate, averaged 17.9 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game this season. He set the NCAA Div. III record for consecutive field goals last season.

Cage coachesto induct five
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association has announced its hall of fame selections for the 2002 season.
Inducted this year will be Will Collins (Bellefontaine High), Doc Daugherty (Euclid), Gary Walters (Newark), Jim Lawhead (Lorain Catholic) and Richard Armstrong, former OHSAA commissioner.

Browns can't getRoss from Steelers
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday matched the Cleveland Browns' offer for offensive lineman Oliver Ross.
Ross will earn $4.55 million over the next three years with the Steelers, including $900,000 in signing and roster bonuses.
But it also means the Steelers are one step closer to parting with Rich Tylski, the team's starting right guard the past two seasons.
Ross, a third-year player and restricted free agent, signed the offer with the Browns on Tuesday. The Steelers had until March 19 to match the offer or accept a fifth-round draft pick as compensation from the Browns.
Ross, 6-foot-5 and 314 pounds, is an inch taller, nearly 10 pounds heavier and four years younger than Tylski. He started seven games last year -- one at left tackle and six in place of Tylski at right guard.

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns will launch player development camps to provide area youth age 8-14 with an opportunity to learn skills and tips from the pros.

Pens, Blue Jacketsmake trade
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins obtained defenseman Jamie Pushor from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday for a fourth-round pick in 2003 and claimed forward Shean Donovan off waivers from Atlanta.
Pushor, 29, had six assists, 54 penalty minutes and was minus-10 in 61 games this season. He has a $950,000 salary.
The Penguins are six points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 15 games left in the regular season.
