Building to be razed
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A building on East Washington Street will be razed to make room for a new city park. City council agreed to buy the one-story building at 220 and 222 East Washington St. from Nicholas DeRosa and Patricia Moosally for $274,500. City solicitor James Manolis said the building is a key piece of property in the city's downtown revitalization plans, which include a river walk park along the Neshannock Creek. City officials must now wait for a bankruptcy court to approve Moosally's end of the deal, he said. DeRosa has already approved the sale of his ownership of the building. The money to buy the building will come from the $5 million state grant the city received for the revitalization project. The project is being done in conjunction with a private developer's plan to put a Warner Bros. theme park downtown.
