Abduction report
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report that a 21-year-old South Raccoon Road woman blacked out Saturday at Eat N' Park on Mahoning Avenue and later woke up in Chicago.
The woman said a doctor at St. Elizabeth Health Center told her he didn't have enough evidence to collect a rape kit.
She said the last thing she remembers before blacking out is going to the restroom at the restaurant around 2 p.m. Saturday. She said the next thing she remembers is waking up on a couch in a living room with two men before she blacked out again.
The woman later woke up sick and with a headache in the back seat of her car in a Chicago alley.
She drove back to the Mahoning Valley, arriving at her boyfriend's house early Monday morning.
Police found beer bottles, a carton of cigarettes, and a condom wrapper in the woman's car. She said the items did not belong to her.
Hydrochloric acid spill
CANFIELD -- A rest stop on state Route 11 in Beaver Township was closed for five hours Tuesday afternoon while hazardous materials crews cleaned up a hydrochloric acid spill.
The acid leaked from a 55-gallon drum that was on a tractor-trailer. The driver of the truck noticed the leak around 3 p.m. at the northbound rest stop at milepost 11 and called the state patrol.
A hazardous materials crew from Chemtron, a national firm paid by chemical companies to clean up spills, was called to the rest stop.
The state patrol kept the rest stop closed from 3:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. while the spill was cleaned up. Chemtron took the leaky barrel.
The Beaver Township Fire Department and a Mahoning County hazardous materials crew also responded to the scene.
Milton Twp. trustees
LAKE MILTON -- Milton Township Zoning Inspector Curtis Dungan told township trustees Tuesday night that he wouldn't retire until April 1 so they'll have more time to hire his replacement. Dungan had given the trustees a letter of resignation Feb. 1.
On Tuesday, trustees also discussed working with the Mahoning County commissioners' special projects office to obtain a grant to pay for repairs to Scott Cliffs Road. A special projects official will examine the road to determine what type of grant is needed.
Trustees also voted to spend $559 on a saw to trim trees in the township cemetery.
