Men's tennis
BOARDMAN -- Youngstown State dropped a 7-0 decision to Wright State on Saturday at the Boardman Tennis Club.
The Penguins' (0-7) Brandon Williams was beaten by Kevin Tuefel 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
At No. 1 singles, Wright State's Chad Camper defeated Seth Banks 6-1, 6-1; while teammates Quincy Jones beat Ryan Valentine 6-4, 6-1; Chad Derry defeated R.J. Pepino 6-0, 6-3; Scott Hayden beat Kevin Schaffert, 6-2, 6-2 and Jim Grombacher defeated Kevin Kestner, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action, Wright State's Camper-Derry beat Banks-Williams, 8-4; Tuefel-Rurner defeated Pepino-Valentine, 8-2 and Jones-Grombacher beat Schaffert-Kestner, 8-3.
Women's tennis
BOARDMAN -- Youngstown State was handed a 4-3 setback by Wright State at the Boardman Tennis Club.
The Penguins' Annie Marino and Jenn Meister were double winners. Meister won 7-6, 2-7, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, while Marino won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3.
YSU's Heather Hagood, Leslie Banks, Sarah Rothenberg and Jenny Vodhanel lost singles matches, while Banks-Rothenberg and Vodhanel-Vodhanel were beaten in doubles.
Baseball
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Youngstown State got its season off to a start Saturday, losing a doubleheader to the College of Charleston 13-3 and 10-1.
In the second game, Curtis Lee of the Cougars hit a double and grand slam.
Frank Santor (0-1), who pitched four innings, took the loss for YSU. Jonathan Smarth two innings, while Chris Dennis and Mike Abdalla each had went a scoreless inning for the Penguins.
The Cougars (12-3) scored four runs in the second inning of the first game off YSU losing pitcher Corey Ohalek (0-1).
Kendall Schlabach and Matt Speas each had two hits for the Penguins.

GIRARD -- The Ohio Browns Boosters will have a membership meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at the Creekside Golf Dome. Current members and anyone who wants to become one are encouraged to attend this informational meeting. Draft day and other topics will be discussed.

GIRARD -- Running back Ben Gay of the Cleveland Browns will be a special guest, while former Browns Hanford Dixon and Frank Minnifield will make an appearance at Who Let the Dawgs Out NFL Draft Day Party April 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at Creekside Golf Dome.

BOARDMAN -- Julias Livas, a Big Ten Conference football official from Youngstown, will be the guest speaker of the Curbstone Coaches weekly noon luncheon at Lockwood House on Monday.
Simpson 4th
KENT -- Warren Harding High's Mike Simpson took fourth place in the high jump as he cleared 5 feet, 10 inches as the Kent State University Open Indoor track and field meet.
He placed fifth in the long jump (19 feet, 9 inches).
The Raiders' Travis Stanford finished fifth in the 400 meters in 51.37 seconds and he was eighth in 60 meters (7.25).
Rob Massucci placed third in 60 meters (7.19) and he was eighth in the 200 (22.95).
Antwaun Molden finished sixth in the 400 (51.5) and the Raiders' 4x400 relay Treymayne Warfield, Molden, Simpson and Stanford took second place (3:24.74).
Blewitt winsnational title
BOSTON, Mass. -- Adriane Blewitt, a Boardman native and junior at Ashland College, is the NCAA Division II national indoor track and field shot put champion.
She won the event with a throw of 51 feet, 3 1/2 inches Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center. She won a gold medal in the discus at last year's outdoor championships.
Spadaforaretains belt
PITTSBURGH -- Paul Spadafora won a unanimous decision over Angel Manfredy to retain the International Boxing Federation lightweight championship belt.
Spadafora (35-0) was ahead 115-113 on all three judges' cards at the end of the fight, held at the A.J. Palumbo Center Saturday night.
Manfredy's record fell to 39-6-1.

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Convention Center will hold the 22nd National Veterans Wheelchair Games, the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world, from July 9-13.
