Niki Stamos named Ohio's Junior Miss



MOUNT VERNON -- Niki Stamos, Mahoning County's Junior Miss, won the title of Ohio's Junior Miss and $7,500 in cash scholarships when 25 teen-age girls from across the state competed for the title Feb. 23 at the Knox County Memorial Building.
Miss Stamos, a daughter of Peter and Mary Stamos of Campbell, also won awards in the areas of scholastics, talent, poise and fitness, as well as a $600 scholarship for her "Be Your Best Self" essay entry. She will compete in the America's Junior Miss national finals June 28 in Mobile, Ala. The pageant will be telecast at 9 p.m. that evening on the PAX network.
The winner: A 17-year-old honor student at Campbell Memorial High School, Miss Stamos also is a SB-140 student at Youngstown State University. Her extracurricular activities include varsity cheerleading and classical ballet. She studies with the Great Lakes Festival Ballet under the direction of Richard Dickinson. She is the recipient of the 2000 Maria Tallchief Fellowship and the 2001 National Federation of Music Clubs national award. She also is a winner of the Thelma A. Robinson Ballet award and the Flora P. Roussos Ballet award.
