Police arrest man after traffic stop

AUSTINTOWN -- Police arrested an East Liverpool man this morning after they found a loaded handgun, suspected marijuana, and a Percoset pill in his glove compartment during a traffic stop. A spent shell casing also was found in the car.
The man, 53, of Jackson Street, was charged by police with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, and illegal possession of Percoset. He also was given a traffic citation.
Police pulled the man over about 5 a.m. at Mahoning Avenue and North Four Mile Run Road. Reports do not indicate why police stopped him. Police noticed the suspected marijuana when the man reached into the glove box to get his insurance card.
They also found the loaded .25-caliber automatic handgun and the Percoset pill in the glove box when they searched the car.
The man was to be arraigned later today in Mahoning County court here.
