UHeard that zoning inspector John Ghindia issued six permits in February for a house addition, a storage shed, a duplex condo, a duplex, a swimming pool and repair of a burned garage roof, with a total valuation of $137,900. Permit fees were $358.
UHeard Ghindia's assistant, Rhonda Fonce, say that new regulations for swimming pools are as follows: An outdoor swimming pool is defined as any artificial water pool constructed of steel, masonry, concrete, aluminum, plastic or any other manufactured material, located out-of-doors, which has a surface area of 450 square feet or more and a depth of 21/2 feet or more.
UAny outdoor swimming pool, as well as pumps, filters and pool disinfection installations, must be at least 10 feet from side and rear lot lines.
UEvery outdoor pool hereafter constructed must have a barrier or fence around it not less than 4 feet high and no more than 4 inches from the ground. It shall contain no openings larger than 6 inches except for gates, which shall be securely locked when not in use.
UPools require zoning certificates before construction.
UPonds require a minimum of five acres and must be at least 20 feet from adjacent property lines. A zoning permit is required.
UHeard Fire Chief Ron Thompson report a total of 91 calls in February -- 79 emergencies and 12 fires.
UHeard Police Chief Dennis Steinbeck report 90 calls. He also said Woodland Meadows Tenants Association gave a $100 donation that was used to buy items for the juvenile safety program, such as reflectors for bicycles, which officers can carry with them on patrol to pass out to kids. Also, a resident identified as Mrs. Martin of Mahoning Avenue donated homemade quilts, which officers can carry in their cruisers for emergencies.
UHeard road supervisor Robert Sudzina report that the department will relocate mailboxes so carriers don't have to drive off the road to reach them.
