A weekend shooting may be related to a January murder, a victim told police.
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police arrested a 20-year-old South Side man over the weekend suspected in the December shooting of a 30-year-old Struthers man on an East Side street.
Wayne L. Martin of East Lucius Avenue faces a charge of attempted murder, police reports show. He was arrested on a warrant Friday at the Mahoning County jail, where he was being held.
Sam Vona III suffered a gunshot wound to the face during the Dec. 19 shooting. Police found his vehicle on Beachwood Drive near Jacobs Road around 6:30 p.m. Vona had collapsed on the road.
Robbery, menacing: In a separate arrest, police placed a 15-year-old boy in custody at about 8 p.m. Friday on charges of robbery and aggravated menacing. He's accused, along with two other Eagle Heights Academy eighth-graders of dragging an 11-year-old boy who is a sixth-grade schoolmate through the mud at Cleveland Park and punching him, with the 15-year-old stealing his new pair of blue Nike shoes, police said.
After he was confronted by the family of the 11-year-old, the teen gave the shoes back. Members of the younger boy's family had taken the teen's coat, telling him they would not return it until police arrived.
Stabbing, shooting: Also on Friday, police received reports of a stabbing and a shooting at two separate North Side locations.
At about 8:45 p.m., an 18-year-old East Side man said he was turning around his car in a Lora Avenue driveway when two teens he knows came "out of nowhere" and one fired four shots at him, striking the car.
The man said he was a friend of Anthony M. Talley, 19, of Youngstown, and the shooting may be related to Talley's murder. He was found dead Jan. 12 in a Broadway Street driveway with a gunshot wound to the base of his skull.
In the stabbing, a 19-year-old reported that he and a friend were at a party on Benita Avenue at about 11 p.m. Friday when they were approached by a man in his mid-20s, who stabbed him in the left forearm before fleeing in a car. He said he believes the assault is related to a female.
Firearms stolen: Also on Friday, a 60-year-old East Side man reported that seven firearms, including a pistol, revolvers and rifles, were stolen from his Thorn Hill Road home sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The guns were valued at a total of $2,600.
Woman beaten: At about 6 p.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old South Side woman who is 5 months pregnant was severely beaten in her West Judson Avenue home. The woman told police her 24-year-old boyfriend had thrown her out of a chair and punched and kicked her several times when she was on the floor.
The woman suffered an injury to her left arm and several facial injuries, including swollen mouth and eyes, lumps on the forehead and face and a fractured jaw, police said. The boyfriend, of Fairgreen Avenue on the city's North Side, had fled before police arrived. She was taken to Forum Health Northside Medical Center for treatment.
