Man of the Year in Ohio
VIENNA -- Retired Air Force Col. Dr. Jack Ventling of Poland was named the Air Force Association Man of the Year in Ohio at the Ohio AFA annual meeting at Youngstown Air Force Reserve Station, hosted by AFA Steel Valley Chapter 371.
Ventling is president of Chapter 371 and vice president of the state Membership and Community Partners committee and active in the Great Lakes Region and on the national level.
Flag disposal ceremony
POLAND -- The Sons of the American Legion, Mahoning Valley Squadron 15, will have a flag disposal ceremony at 8 p.m. Friday at the post home, 35 Cortland St. The public is invited.

Petroleum officer
Army Capt. Stacy M. Brady graduated from the eight-week petroleum officer course at Fort Lee, Va. Brady is a quartermaster officer with Headquarters Company, Army Logistics Management Center at Fort Lee. Her husband, Terry, is the son of Sally Buttermore and stepson of Brian Buttermore, Mathews Road, Youngstown.
HONORS
Meritorious service
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ohio National Guard Master Sgt. Richard T. Baldwin, of the 838th Military Police Co., was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for exemplary service as a platoon sergeant from Oct. 7, 1994 to Aug. 18, 2000.
Baldwin, a Youngstown policeman, served in the Marine Corps from 1973 to 1975 and enlisted in the National Guard in 1977. He has been activated several times, including for the Persian Gulf War in 1991, to Germany in 1996 for Operation Joint Endeavor, as airport security after Sept. 11, and most recently in March to Virginia in support of Force Protection Home Land Security.
Baldwin is a son of Richard J. Baldwin of Youngstown. He and his wife, Ruth; daughter, Jennifer; and son, Brian, live in Canfield. He is a 1973 graduate of Youngstown Chaney High School and attended Youngstown State University.
Drill Instructors Award
Marine Military Academy Cadet Michael L. Altiere, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Altiere, Warren, was awarded the Drill Instructors Award at the graduation parade in May in Harlingen, Texas. The award is presented to one cadet from each of the six companies.
