STRUTHERS -- Youngstown Express scored five times in the fifth inning to break open a 4-4 game to win 9-6 Saturday in the opener in the best-of-five Class Little b league championship at Cene Park.
Josh Geric had three hits and three RBIs for the Express, while Shawn Carr went the first six-plus innings for the win. Matt Geramita had a double and closed the game out on the mound for the Express.
Bill Christian had two hits and two RBIs for Astros while losing pitcher Mike Pulakos hit a two-run home run in the third inning. Chris Tremblay added a double for Astros.
The Express sent nine batters to the plate in the five-run fifth and Ryan Jones drove in two runs.
Game two of the series will be played today at 2 p.m.
CLASS B
Astro Falcons 10, Rondinelli Tuxedo 2: The Falcons (16-9) scored nine times in the fourth and fifth innings and pitcher John Hay (4-1) allowed just three hits, walking three and striking out three to get the win.
Brent Parks, Bob Benson, Joe Lopez and Frank Turocy all had two hits for the Falcons. Parks had a double, three RBIs and stole two bases to move his league-leading total to 25. Dan Leonard added a two run double for Astro.
For Rondinelli (8-17), Josh Conkey and Rick Vickers had RBI hits.
Lazart 5, Riordans Sports 3: Jim Hicks allowed six hits and no earned runs to win his second game of the year as Lazart upset Riordans. Brandon Keck and Dean Stokes had solo home runs for Lazart (5-20).
Stokes, Keck, Jason Nolfi, Travis Garrett, and Mike Babyak each had two hits for Lazart.
Joe O'Hara had a two run double for Riordans (12-13).
Livi Steel 11, Becdir 3: Livi (10-15) sent 12 batters to the plate in the nine-run second inning to break open the game. Phil Butch was 4-for-4, while Shawn Petrarca had two hits, including a double.
Elliott Stevenson had a two-run homer to cap the second inning, while Sean Lucas had three RBIs. Wes Lambert had a double, a single and two RBIs for Becdir (10-15).
CLASS A
Pal Joey's 7, Jolly Joe's 6: Jamie Palumbo and Dom Yazbek each homered in the bottom of the seventh inning as Pal Joey rallied for the win. Jim Putko also homered in the victory. Joe Vrona doubled and Andy Caprarulo tripled for Jolly Joe's.
Jolly Joe's 13, Weaver Chiropractic 3: Shane Davis had a double and a home run and Jolly Joe's scored nine runs in the second inning to break open the game. Andy Caprarulo added a triple in the victory.
