McDONALD -- The 69th annual homecoming, sponsored by the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department, will be Wednesday through Saturday on the village green, at the corner of Ohio Avenue and Fifth Street.
The traditional homecoming parade will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The parade lineup has been changed this year. The route will begin at the north end of Ohio Avenue, in front of McDonald Steel, and will travel south to the end of Ohio Avenue at Marshall Road.
Race
Before the parade, a new event not associated with the homecoming will take place at 5:45 p.m. A 1-mile foot race will be held just before the parade, starting at Marshall Road and heading north to McDonald Steel.
The event, called the Run of the Mill, is being sponsored as a fund-raiser to benefit the McDonald High School boys' and girls' cross country teams.
Pre-registration is $10, and registration the day of the race will be $12.
Registration should be mailed to: McDonald Cross Country Club, 725 Pennsylvania Ave., McDonald, OH 44437.
Prizes will be awarded in five age divisions: ages 13 and under; 14 to 18; 19 to 25; 26 to 39; and 40 and over.
Festival
The homecoming festivities will include rides by Brown Amusements and games and refreshments at the concessions each night from 7 to 11 p.m.
Wrist band night for youngsters will be Thursday, and advance ride tickets can be purchased at a reduced rate at the McDonald municipal building until the close of business at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Cost of advance ride tickets is five for $5.
Bingo will be played each night of the festival starting at 7 p.m. in the Ramsey pavilion, and the band The First Edition will play at the bay doors of the fire station, next to the municipal building and facing Ohio Avenue, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday.
The annual Saturday Kiddie Games will start at 10 a.m. on the green. There will be no breakfast this year. The festival culminates at 11:30 p.m. Saturday with a fireworks display.
