LIGHTNING Golfers' safety

Question asked of golfers at Mill Creek Park: How confident are you that the golf courses you play at will warn you quickly and adequately in case of severe weather to get off the course?
Jenni Grossi of Austintown, a member of the YSU women's golf team and a starter at the Mill Creek Park golf course: "It depends on what course it is. I don't think they want anybody to be in any danger. Some golf courses have sirens, and some don't. I think that people should just be more aware and be more careful. I don't think people take it as seriously as they should."
Edwin Beach, golfer and Poland Township road superintendent: "At this course, you have the fire station right up the street. You can hear the siren from the Shields Road fire station. But, most courses, no, you don't have any warning."
Todd Mazei of Columbiana: "Hopefully, they're very adequate. I've only had a few situations where that's taken effect. But basically I think most of them are pretty up to date with the technology that's needed. Most of them have sirens that they'll sound if needed."
Bill Wittman of Canfield: "I'm very confident. I think they do a good job around this area and also other areas where I play golf. They're really professional about it. You know, it's their business. They've got to protect their golfers out here."
Don L. Hanni III of Youngstown: "The only one I play at, basically, is Mill Creek, and I'm very confident. The people around here do a damn good job. I don't think I've ever played nine holes here without seeing a ranger. "
Louise Rade of Boardman: "So far, all these years, it's been very successful. They do send out the whistle and I do hear it. We can hear the siren from the fire station."
Jeanne Donie, ofBoardman: "I guess I count on them to blow the siren. I know they have the television on here a lot. When we come in, we'll ask them [about the weather]."
Jane Spotleson of Boardman: "We just know to get off -- common sense."
