Garwigs feted at several events for anniversary



BOARDMAN -- Mr. and Mrs. Myron E. Garwig, 482 Annawan Lane, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 28 during a family dinner party held at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Pittsburgh.
Hosts for the event were their family, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Garwig of Detroit, Glenn W. Garwig III and his wife, Heidi, of Boardman, and John E. Garwig of Bedford Heights. Also participating were their five grandchildren.
In conjunction with the anniversary, the couple also were feted during an open house held the following day at the Boardman home of their son and daughter-in-law and at a reception held by their sons following morning worship today at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church.
The former Phyllis E. Gore and Mr. Garwig were married June 28, 1952, at Lexington Presbyterian Church, Lexington.
Mrs. Garwig retired in 1986 from her position as secretary at Calvary Baptist Church and also at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, where she sings in the adult choir and was an officer and a founder of two senior citizens groups. She serves as vice regent of Mahoning Chapter of the Daughter of the American Revolution and is a member of Boardman Belles Bowling League.
Mr. Garwig served in the U.S. Navy and taught social studies at Boardman High School prior to retiring in 1986. He has been an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, after-school tutoring programs and fellowship and study groups at Pleasant Grove Church, and has served as a church officer.
