DOCTORS
Podiatry graduate
Bradley A. Habuda has graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He was the recipient of the Alumni Podiatric Orthotics academic award.
Dr. Habuda attended Youngstown State University before entering the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and was a 1995 graduate of Poland Seminary High School.
He is the son of Arnold and Valerie Habuda of Poland and is married to the former Gina Schiavello of Poland. They live in Streetsboro.
He is doing his primary podiatric care and surgical residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation/Kaiser Permanente in Cleveland.
University of Cincinnati
David Weimer recently graduated from the University of Cincinnati's College of Medicine. He was a graduate of Ursuline High School, Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., and D'Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y., where he graduated summa cum laude in physical therapy.
He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and received the Emil and Esther Bogen Research Award for original and promising research during medical school.
He is scheduled to do his residency in orthopedic surgery at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center, Detroit.
Dr. Weimer is the son of William and Lillian Weimer of Youngstown and is married to the former Shannon Sculli of Austintown.
LAWYERS
Capital University
Andrew E. Russ of Youngstown has earned his law degree from Capital University School of Law, Columbus. Russ was born in Youngstown and has lived in Columbus since 1992, teaching classical Greek and Latin at St. Charles Preparatory School, Columbus, a Catholic boys school.
He earned his law degree part-time in the evenings. While at Capital, he was a member of its Law Review and graduated cum laude.
He plans to practice at the law office of David Engler in Boardman.
Cleveland State
Thomas E. Green graduated magna cum laude with a juris doctorate degree from Cleveland-John Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University.
Green, a 1988 graduate of McDonald High School, earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Youngstown State University in 1992.
This fall, he plans to join Kastner Westman and Wilkins, a Fairlawn labor and employment law firm.
While at law school, Green was editor-in-chief of the Journal of Law and Health. His other academic achievements include an award as the outstanding student in labor and employment law, and the Charles Auerbach Memorial Award as the outstanding student in the law of evidence.
In addition, he received an award for excellence in the areas of labor law, evidence, corporations, remedies and First Amendment rights.
Green was the law school's liaison to the Ohio State Bar Association and a three-term Student Bar Association senator. He worked as a law clerk in the fields of commercial and consumer debt collection, and labor and employment law. Green also worked for U.S. District Judge Kathleen M. O'Malley.
Before attending law school, Green was a letter carrier for seven years with the U.S. Postal Service in the Youngstown area.
SCOUTS
Gold Award recipient
Valerie Marie Evans is a recipient of the Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting. A daughter of Charles and Debra Evans, she lives in Austintown and is a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.
Evans was a member of Troop 618 and Girl Scouting for eight years. Her troop leader was Connie Yencik. For her Gold Award Project, she organized a 30-year reunion for campers and counselors who had been a part of the council's Special Needs Day Camp, with more than 130 people attending.
Her other awards and honors include the Silver Award.
Eagle Award honoree
Kevin Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Powell of Newton Falls, received his Eagle Scout Award at a court of honor in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Newton Falls. He is a member of the Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America Troop 549, with Lonnie Lucherini as scoutmaster.
He also was a member of Cub Pack 86 and attends Newton Falls High School, where he plays varsity basketball and other sports. He also is a member of the Mormon church youth group.
He has held the troop position of assistant senior patrol leader.
