YOUNGSTOWN Suit filed against deceased mayor

George Tablack was charged in 1999 with driving under the influence of alcohol.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Campbell woman who was hurt in a 1999 traffic accident has refiled a lawsuit against former Campbell mayor George Tablack, who was also involved in the accident.
Effie M. Hordiewich, of Blossom Avenue, is seeking at least $200,000 in damages from Tablack's estate. Tablack died eight months ago.
The suit was originally filed in November 1999, but was voluntarily dismissed by Hordiewich in July 2001. Under Ohio law, she could refile it again within one year.
The suit says Hordiewich was driving north on Struthers-Liberty Road, Campbell, in July 1999, when she was run off the road by Tablack, who was driving south and had crossed the center line into her lane.
To avoid colliding with Tablack's car, Hordiewich swerved sharply to the right, causing her car to jump the curb. When that happened, she struck her head on the driver's-side door, the suit says.
Tablack was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident. In June 2000, he pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of reckless operation and was placed on house arrest for a month. He was also fined $250, and his driver's license was suspended for 30 days.
