YOUNGSTOWN -- Two rural bridges will be replaced by the Mahoning County Engineer's Office.
The first is on Western Reserve Road, just west of state Route 534 in Berlin Township, said Engineer Richard Marsico. The bridge is near Berlin Lake.
The concrete slab bridge will be taken out and replaced with a four-sided concrete box culvert. The bridge deck will be 12 feet long.
The bridge crosses a small branch of Mill Creek, which is a tributary to Berlin Lake, Marsico said.
Western Reserve Road, from Route 534 to Bedell Road, will close Monday so construction can begin and will remain closed for six weeks.
Shook Brothers Construction of Berlin Center is the general contractor for the $100,000 project. Seventy percent of the cost will be paid by the Ohio Public Works Commission, with the rest coming from local road and bridge fund money, Marsico said.
The second bridge
The second project will be the replacement of a 30-foot steel beam bridge on County Line Road, just east of Newton Falls Road in Milton Township.
That span, which crosses Duck Creek, will also be replaced with a concrete box culvert bridge, at a cost of about $165,000. Shook Brothers submitted the lowest bid, but a contract has not yet been awarded, Marsico said.
Work is expected to begin in September and be finished by mid-November, Marsico said. That project will also be paid with 70 percent state money and 30 percent local.
