The city's Park and Recreation Commission handled these items Thursday:
Awarded a $3,300 contract to American Maintenance Cleaning Service, Youngstown, to clean the showers, changing areas and bathrooms at North Side and Borts pools for the eight-week season that started three weeks ago.
Was told that attendance at the two pools has been normal considering the high temperatures in recent weeks.
Approved the Youngstown Steelers semi-pro football team to play five games at the old South High football field. The team will pay $500 per game rent, a $250 reduction from the regular rent.
Heard city school board officials present the status of plans to build a new West Elementary School. The school district needs to swap land with the city to build the school.
Was told the city summer playground program is serving more than 300 free breakfasts and nearly 600 free lunches daily at 11 playgrounds.
Accepted the retirement of Margaret Kane, the department's administrative assistant, who is retiring after 33 years.
