Express beatMurrysville 10-1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Justin Hedrick scattered eight hits and struck out six as the Youngstown Express defeated Murrysville 10-1 Wednesday at Pemberton-Donnell park.
Hedrick (3-0) worked seven innings and allowed only one run. Nate Bouldin pitched two inning in relief and gave up only one hit.
Schular Mann hit the first home run of the season, a three-run shot, for the Express (6-4). Brad Whitman and Derek Hebert each had two hits.
Springfield topsSalem Old-Timers
SALEM -- Terry Dobson, Howard Merritt and John Morgan, the winning pitcher, had two hits apiece as the Springfield Old-timers outslugged Salem 12-10 Wednesday.
Greg Gerace and Bob Wagner, the losing pitcher, had three hits each for Salem.
Semi-pro teamslated for opener
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Steelers will play their season opener Saturday at the South High football stadium, behind Eagle Heights Academy, against the Akron Jaguars. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for those 7-12 years old and free for children under 6.
The Steelers are a semi-pro football team playing in their first year.
HOF autographsessions set
CANTON -- The schedule is set for the Topps Autograph Sessions during this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement celebration.
Sessions will be held Aug. 2 from 3 p.m. until 4:30 and Aug. 3 from 3 p.m. until 4;30.
Tickets go on sale by telephone only Tuesday at 9 a.m. Walk-in sales begin Wednesday, in the event that there are still tickets available.
Approximately 275 tickets per session at $75 each will be sold. Each ticket entitles holder to one autograph per Hall of Famer. Cash or credit card (Visa or MasterCard only) will be accepted for purchase.
Tickets for the Class of 2002 autograph session will go on sale July 6 by telephone only from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the event that there are still tickets available.
Walk-in and telephone sales will resume July 8 at 9 a.m. Approximately 300 tickets at $150 each will be available.

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College's Kennard Davis, a Farrell native who will be a sophomore defensive back this coming season, has been named to preseason Division III All-American team by Lindy's 2002 National College Football Annual and Street & amp; Smith's College Football 2002 Preview.
Davis earned national attention last season when he was named to the Don Hansen Football Gazette Div. III All-American first team as well as the Hewlett-Packard Div. III All-American second team.

MADISON -- Carlie Eastman of Warren, competing in the girls 16-19 year-old division shot 42-40 -- 82 to finish second in the North Coast Junior Golf Tour Thursday at Powerhorn Golf Course.
Tom Dewey of Warren, in the boys 12-13 bracket, shot 45-40 -- 85 to place fourth.

Corey admitsto marijuana use
NEW YORK -- Mets pitcher Mark Corey admitted he smoked marijuana shortly before he had a seizure and collapsed on a street near Shea Stadium after a game Wednesday night, according to a newspaper report.
The New York reliever said he was to meet Friday with Mets psychiatrist Allan Lans, coordinator of the Employee Assistance Program, Corey told Newsday in a story posted on its Web site.
