SANDLOT BASEBALL Propane takes Class B lead with 9-8 victory



Three unearned runs led to the win over second-place Line Drive Academy.

STRUTHERS -- The third meeting of the Class B League co-leaders went to Youngstown Propane, which took advantage of the three Line Drive errors, leading to three unearned runs in Propane's 9-8 victory Wednesday at Cene Park.
Propane (20-3) turned three double plays in the game as it took a one-game lead over Line Drive (19-4).
Line Drive's Matt Repec hit his seventh home run, a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning, before Propane scored four runs on just one hit over the next two innings.
An RBI double by Line Drive's Justin Byler, followed by a triple by Ryan Vaughn tied the score at 4, but Propane scored four times in the fifth. Michael Krieger drove in one run with a single and Tom Zetts hit a triple to score two more, and Gary Hinkson knocked in the last run with a single.
In the sixth inning Jared Bogan hit a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Russo to give Propane a 9-4 lead.
Dan Ford hit a bases-loaded triple to get Line Drive back to 9-7, and he scored on a wild pitch, but Line Drive could not push across the tying run.
Krieger (3-1) went five plus innings for the win, and Zetts did not allow a hit in two innings of relief for the save. Kevin Libeg lost for the first time after five wins, and Line Drive saw their 12-game winning streak snapped.
Vasili Pahoulis also hit a triple for Line Drive.
Rondinelli Tuxedo 7, Riordans Sports 6: Rondinelli's upset dropped Riordans from a fourth place tie with Youngstown Express. Nick Pompeo was 3-for-3, while Greg Rohan and Dean Palumbaro had two hits each for Rondinelli (8-15). One of Palumbaro's hits was a double. Josh Conkey (1-1) struck out nine in the complete-game victory. For Riordans (12-11), Josh Pratt was 4-for-4 with a double and a triple. Mike Bashline hit an inside the park home run and Pat Oman doubled.
Astro Falcons 8, Becdir 4: Bob Benson went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Astros (15-8). Chad Baker added two hits and two RBI's, while David Sayre went the first six and a third innings for his second win of the year. John Hay came on in the seventh and got his second save.
Becdir (9-14) was led by Juan Serrano with two hits, including a double and Ralph Festa had three singles.
Youngstown Express 8, Livi Steel 0: Kevin Koliniar (4-0) pitched a five hit shutout for Express (13-10). He did'nt walk a batter and struck out two. Jason Stephens had three hits, one a double, while Mo Oliver had a triple and a single, and Tim Dewberry had two singles. Scott Taylor hit a solo home run in the fifth for Express.
Becdir (8-15) was paced by Nick Guerrieri, who had two hits while Luke Strike suffered the loss, his second in six decisions.
Roth Brothers 11, Lazart 7: Roth (7-16) won its second straight game with a 14-hit attack. Bob Dubovec had three hits, one a double, while Pat Conley, Josh Skraba, Adam DeFord, and Chris Allen had two hits each. Jon Habuda hit a two-run home run in the seven-run fourth inning.
Lazart (4-19) was sparked by Matt Stokes with three hits, including a triple and Justin Kurlichick and Jason Nolfi had two hits each. Kurlichick hit a solo home run in the seventh.
