Jolly Joes wins 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jolly Joes won twice in the Class AA League Tuesday at it defeated Roth Brothers 8-2 and DiCioccio 11-1.
Mark Nightingale, Rick Gozur and Jason Jablonski each had two hits for Jolly Joes in the win over Roth.
Rob Johnson hit a pair of singles for Roth Brothers.
In the second game, Jolly Joes pulled away with a four-run surge in the five inning and then scored three more runs in the sixth.
Joe Vrona hit a solo run for Jolly Joes in the fifth inning. Caleb Goist and Jablonski had two hits apiece. Blair Lang worked six innings, allowed only two hits and struck out one to pick up the win.
DiCioccio, behind 3-0, scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning, added a run in the fourth, then held off a late rally to defeat Weaver Chiropractic 8-7.
Willie Sly double and singled for the winners. Mick Wigal hit two doubles for Weaver.
Express loses 11-6
COLUMBUS -- The Youngstown Express collegiate baseball team dropped a 11-6 decision Tuesday to the Columbus All-Americans.
David Mandley and Brian Herrara collected two hits apiece for Express. Jordan Thompson was the losing pitcher.
Boardman boy third
COLUMBUS -- Tim Morrow of Boardman, competing in the boys 13-15-year-old division fired 75 to place third in a junior golf tournament at Zoar Village Golf Club.

BOWIE, Md. -- The Bowie Baysox scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat the Akron Aeros 3-2 Wednesday in the Eastern League.
Three men indictedby Grand Jury
CLEVELAND -- A grand jury indicted three men accused of throwing an explosive device akin to a firecracker at a Cleveland Indians game.
Donald Kreiger and Clifton Oliver, both 22, and Andrew Mendez, 20, were indicted Wednesday on four counts of aggravated arson, four counts of felonious assault and three counts of obstruction of justice. If convicted on all counts, each faces the possibility of more than 70 years in prison. All three are from Elyria.

SAN FRANCISCO -- California's football team was banned from a bowl game this season and placed on five years of probation by the NCAA for academic fraud, recruiting and eligibility violations.
The school also will lose nine scholarships over the next four years and will have to vacate the records of two athletes who competed during the 1999 season while academically ineligible.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Javelin thrower Emily Carlsten has challenged a positive drug test and has been given a provisional suspension pending a hearing.
The agency said Carlsten, 23, of Gainesville, Fla., tested positive for an amphetamine at the Penn Relays April 26.

Ferrari fined$1 million
PARIS -- Ferrari escaped severe punishment for manipulating the finish of last month's Austrian Grand Prix.
The governing body of Formula One racing, the FIA, imposed a joint $1 million fine on the automaker and drivers Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello for improper conduct on the victory stand.
