The Class Little b League playoffs get underway today at Cene Park. Astro Falcons will go against Becdir in a doubleheader on field one with the first game set for 6 p.m. Line Drive Academy will take on Youngstown Express in a doubleheader at field two also at 6 p.m. If necessary a third game will be scheduled Friday at a site yet to be determined. Steroids testing bill passes committee
Responding to reports of widespread steroid use in baseball, a California Assembly committee voted Wednesday to require professional athletic teams to test their players for performance-enhancing drugs. The Assembly Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media Committee approved the bill 11-0. The bill by Sen. Don Perata would require professional athletic organizations that have at least $1 billion a year in revenue and hold sporting events in California to have drug testing policies. At a minimum, those policies would have to require that players be tested once a year, and to bar players who test positive from appearing in at least one game or event. Teams that refused to adopt such a policy would be barred from playing in the state.
