Commissioners approve use of federal funds

Commissioners authorized seeking bids for construction of a new garage.
LISBON -- Columbiana County commissioners approved using nearly $340,400 in federal funds for a variety of projects.
Commissioners approved the allocation of the community development block grants Wednesday.
Nearly $200,220 will be used to help install a sanitary sewer system in the Winona area.
About $14,421 will be used to help create a parking area and other improvements along Eagleton Road in Salem Township near the site of a historical covered bridge and a hike-bike path.
Commissioners also allocated $25,000 toward a project to improve the East Liverpool sewage treatment plant; $36,000 to Leetonia for a generator to pump water from a reservoir into the village's water tower during emergencies; $15,259 toward a project to raze a county-owned home on Market Street in Lisbon; and $49,500 to help replace a waterline in New Waterford.
In other matters, commissioners authorized the county sanitary engineer department to seek bids to build a garage.
The 1,600-square-foot garage will be constructed on county-owned property near the county jail in Center Township.
It will house trucks used by the county's sewage treatment plant.
Estimated cost of the structure is $100,000. A county fund fueled by fees for water and sewer treatment will pay for it.
