LEETONIA SCHOOLS Board of education to mull 3-year contract with LEA

Employee health insurance issues are also on the agenda.
LEETONIA -- At its meeting tonight, the board of education will consider approving a three-year agreement with the Leetonia Education Association.
The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the high school.
The 58-member union represents teachers, counselors and school nurses.
Superintendent Tom Inchak said the teachers ratified the agreement June 19. He declined to release details of the contract before the school board's approval.
Also on the agenda are several motions related employees' health insurance.
Eyeing health-care costs
Treasurer Larry Syverson said school officials look at health-care costs over a three-year period to determine how much to set aside from the general fund.
A 5-percent increase is recommended and would push the monthly premiums from $486 to $510 for family coverage and from $212 to $222 for single coverage. Setting aside those amounts monthly would total about $20,800 per year, Syverson said.
He said only a few part-time employees pay into the health-care plan.
Also on the agenda is a request to transfer $40,000 from the general fund to the employee benefits fund.
Syverson said the district is on sound financial footing and able to keep up with the health-care costs, and the transfer is needed to ensure enough money is available to pay premiums.
He said the district covers an employee's health-care claims up to $30,000.
