STRUTHERS -- Police are investigating the legality of walking exotic animals on city streets after two women were caught on Euclid Boulevard with their boa constrictors Sunday evening.
Police reports said the women were walking south between Elm and Sexton streets around 8:40 p.m. with the snakes wrapped around their necks.
When questioned by police, the women said that the snakes were harmless and that they had been informed it was legal to have them within city limits.
Poland schools honored
POLAND -- The Poland school district is one of 71 of the state's 612 districts to receive an "excellent" rating from the state board of education this year.
The district was awarded a banner from the state in recognition of the honor. Superintendent Dr. Robert L. Zorn said Poland is one of three districts in Mahoning County to receive the ranking. The others were Boardman and Canfield.
